I met Carlos in Holland in the mid-1980s. Between sets by rock bands, he performed classic numbers such as “The Barber” and “Man Alone in the Kitchen”, which were very funny and entertaining pieces. Much later, when I saw Carlos perform a full programme for the first time and he ended with the piece “Hands”, I realised the enormous potential of pantomime. This piece in particular, which offers so much room for interpretation, touched me deeply. So I went home and made these paper cut-outs. Since then, I have had the privilege to discover many more facets of his fascinating art.
